State Champions!

Congratulations to the Holland High School Theatre Department on winning the 2017 Michigan Interscholastic Forensics Association (MIFA) Division 1 State Competitive Theatre Championship at the State Theatre Festival in Charlotte, Feb. 18.

The team won for their Studio Production "Agnes of God" and Main Stage Production "Triumph of Love" (double state champion), along with winning "The Golden Truck Award" for backstage teamwork approach (observed by judges)!

The HHS Competitive Theatre students will be having an encore performance of these two award-winning plays on Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 7pm at the Holland High School Performing Arts Center. Tickets can be purchased in the link below.

Fall 2017 Kinder Meeting March 2

Kindergarten enrollment for Fall 2017 is underway.

All parents with 4 & 5 year-olds are invited to come learn more about our preschool, Transitional Kindergarten (TK), traditional Kindergarten, and TWBI Spanish-English Kindergarten programs.

We hosting two more Kindergarten Info Hours on Thursday, March 2 and Tuesday, April 18. 

Both meetings begin at 6 pm and will be held at the HPS Admin Board & Training Room, 320 W. 24th St.

Community Resources Workshop - Feb. 18

Local professionals will be coming together to bring "Show Me the Money" Day at Holland Early College on Saturday, February 18, 2017 from 12:30-4pm.

Hosted by the Community Action House, "Show Me the Money" Day is a FREE statewide event offering FREE resources and information for FREE tax assistance, financial workshops and access to community resources. Click the link below for more info.

Regional Qualifiers

Six Holland High wrestlers have qualified for the MHSAA Individual Regionals after competing at Individual Districts in Hastings, Feb. 11.

Corbin Choummonivong and Mike Visscher came out as District Champions. Yzrael Silguero placed 2nd while Justin Turner, Brain Castro, and Steven Villarreal placed 4th.

Working with Coding

[Click here for Video Link] Elementary students in Chris Bower's technology class at Jefferson and West K-7 schools recently had the opportunity to work with coding using robots.

Instructional Technologist Dr. Anne Thorp, from the Ottawa Area Intermediate School District (OAISD), helped students learn how to operate two robots "Dash" and "SPRK Sphero" using their iPads via Bluetooth.

Conference Champs!

For the first-time since 2011, the Holland High School Wrestling team has secured the OK Green Conference Championship.

The team earned the title at Unity Christian High School in Hudsonville on Feb. 3.

Winning conference championships for Holland were Yzrael Silguero (112), Justin Turner (130), Brian Castro (140), and Corbin Choummanivong (152). Steven Villarreal (145), Israel Anaya (160), Nolan Ricketts (189) and Jesus Martinez (285) were runner-up.

The Dutch now move onto the MHSAA Team and Individual Districts this week. GO DUTCH!

Congrats to our Boys Varsity Basketball Team and Coach Chapman on defeating city-rival (and friends) Holland Christian, 65-56.

This exciting game took place in The Dome on Friday Feb. 3rd. It's the perfect venue for huge events like this one and it was rockin'.

Holland's overall record now stands at 9-6 and 4-3 in the OK Green. GO DUTCH!

Get ready for tournament play right around the corner!

That's right! A summer band concert on Feb. 11

Missing those warm summer evenings in Kollen Park with the melodious sounds of the Holland American Legion Band floating through the air?

Well, you don’t have to wait until June to hear the band. Join the Legion Band at the Jack H. Miller Center for the Musical Arts on Saturday, February 11 at 7:30 pm for their Halfway to Summer Concert with special guest flute soloist Dr. Gabe Southard.

Also joining the band will be a special guest, the Holland High School Wind Ensemble. The groups will perform numbers by John Williams, John Philip Sousa, Johann Sebastian Bach, and Paul Hindemith.

Dr. Southard will perform the virtuosic Carnival of Venice by Giulio Briccialdi. Don’t miss this chance to enjoy a wonderful not-quite-summer’s evening of music.

A gigantic shoutout to Holland High junior Immanuel Garza.

He was selected as the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Holland's 2017 Youth of the Year.

Garza was honored at a celebration ceremony at the Midtown Center on Thursday, February 2.

This marks the second year in-a-row for a Holland High student to receive this honor.

Abria Franklin won the honor last year and went on to be named the Boys & Girls Club's Midwest Region Youth of the Year.

National History Day

Congratulations to all of our students who took part in this year's National History Day Competition at Holland Early College, January 26, 2017.

About 200 people attended the event to see the history fair projects created by the 75 students who participated. Students who earned blue ribbons have been invited to participate in the District 4 Michigan History Day contest at Grand Valley State University on March 18, 2017.

These hard-working students will continue to improve their projects and papers for the next level of competition.

Feb. 7 - Project Lead the Way Meeting

Know a 7th grader interested in engineering? With 8th grade on the horizon, a new program will be offered to connect students with science, technology, engineering, and math. It's called Project Lead the Way. Parents of 7th graders are encouraged to come to a meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 7, at 7 pm. All of the details are in the link below.
