Election Info Thursday Night

Two previously approved school funding levies will expire soon.

On May 2, voters who reside in the Holland Public School district will be asked to decide two proposals.

Superintendent Dr. Brian Davis will host the last of five public info meetings on Thursday night, April 27 at 7 pm.

The meeting will run for about 45 minutes and will be held in the HPS Admin Board & Training Room (320 W. 24th Street).

Cafe Pops - Thursday!

Enjoy "Music of the Cinema" at the Holland Orchestra Parents annual fundraiser "Cafe Pops." The event is Thursday, April 27 at 7 pm. The place is the Gathering Place at Christ Memorial Church. Tickets are $8 for students and $15 for adults. Ticket price include dessert and punch or coffee. Special details This concert is open to the public. Come and enjoy an evening of yummy desserts provided by K's Bake House and coffee, and enjoy light pop classics performed by the Holland High School Orchestras.

First-Generation College Students

Holland High seniors Marita Ky and Freddie DeLaRosa will be first-generation college students this Fall, the first in their families to attend college. Both have been aceepted to the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI and the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, CA.

In addition to academics, DeLaRosa is President of the Student Senate and is also involved in the Youth Advisory Council. Ky is involved with Students for Social Justice and Calling All Colors, a branch of the Lakeshore Ethnic Diversity Alliance that focuses on fostering inclusive school communities. Both students are also members of the National Honor Society.

Congrats to the Holland High School Percussion Ensemble for earning a Division 1 Superior Rating at MSBOA District X Festival. Click on the link below to see and hear these wonderful student musicians in action.

Kudos to Director Demetrius White and the HHS Jazz Ensemble for also receiving a Division 1 rating from the judges at the MSBOA District X Jazz Festival in Caledonia, MI back in March.

Summer Athletic Camps

A reminder that registration is now open for all HPS summer athletic camps! A registration form and camp information sheet is attached. New for 2017, we will also offer an online registration and payment option for camp attendees! A link to the online registration/payment system is available at www.hollanddutchsports.com. Hard copies of the registration form were sent home to all K-7 students recently.

World Championship-bound

Team 74, the joint Holland High School and Black River Public School robotics team known as Team C.H.A.O.S., has qualified to compete at the 2017 FIRST Robotics World Championship in St. Louis, Missouri.

Team C.H.A.O.S. earned their opportunity after finishing 11th out of 40 teams in their division at the FIRST Robotics Michigan State Championship in Saginaw, Michigan on April 15. With the points earned, Team 74 is currently ranked 33rd in the State (out of 451 teams).

Yearbook Sale Ends

The 2016-17 yearbook sale ends on Friday, April 21 at 3:00 pm. At that time the entire school order will be placed and the shipment is expected to arrive in mid-May.

Yearbooks can still be ordered online after this time, but will then be subject to shipping and handling charges. Order now to avoid additional costs.

The Holland Band Parents Association (HBPA) presents the 2nd annual "Jazz Gala" on Thursday, April 20 at 7:30 pm at Park Theatre (248 River Avenue)!

The Holland HS Jazz Band will be giving a concert featuring musical guests to help raise money for the purchase of new marching band uniforms. In addition to live music, there will also be dessert appetizers and a silent auction.

Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at the door, from a student in the Jazz Band or from a HBPA representative. Please do not hesitate to contact the Holland Band Parent Association's President Mrs. Sheridan ([email protected]), Vice President Mrs. Curtis or Director of Bands Mr. White ([email protected]) if you have any further questions or concerns.

Come on out and enjoy some great live music while supporting our students in the Holland High School Band program!

Holland Early College is hosting it's 1st Annual Yard Sale on Saturday, April 22 from 8:00 am to 2:00pm, featuring a car wash, bake sale and yard sale!

Come shop while getting your car washed grab dessert on your way home!

Proceeds from this event will support the Holland Early College yearbook and 10% of all profit will go to the Westshore Animal Reserve.

State Qualifiers

Team 74, the joint Holland High School and Black River Public School robotics team known as Team C.H.A.O.S., took 1st place at the FIRST Shepherd District Competition at Shepherd High School in Shepherd, Michigan, April 8, qualifying for 2017 FIRST Michigan State Championship at Saginaw Valley State University in Saginaw, Michigan on April 12-15!

With the points earned, Team C.H.A.O.S. is currently ranked 26th in the State (out of 451 teams).
