Congrats to STEM Teacher Mr. Boerman!

Our very own Mr.Bill Boerman will get the chance to be honored this year by the AirZoo in Battle Creek MI.

Each year the AirZoo honors both educators and high school students for their excellence and innovation in the teaching of STEM subjects. Mr. Boerman was notified a couple weeks ago that he had been chosen to receive the Educator Excellence Award. This award is given to four educators from 13 total counties in West Michigan! The award recognizes "excellence and innovation in the teaching of STEM subjects, the fostering of deep and meaningful student learning, and generation of exceptional student achievement."

Mr. Boerman will be honored with other winners at the "Hall of Fame Awards" on April 21st at the AirZoo. Along with the ceremony, each Educator Excellence Award winner is given $750 to further the creative learning taking place in their classrooms. Separate from the award, the staff at East has sponsored three 6th grade students to enable them to attend the awards ceremony as well. These students are currently being fitted with new clothes and 'accessories' for our evening at the AirZoo.

Congrats Mr.Boerman! Thank you for continuing to make us HPS Proud!

HHS Clarinet Students Participate in GVSU Clarinet Day 2018!

Students from Holland High School's Concert Band participated in Grand Valley State University's Clarinet Day 2018 on Friday, March 23rd.

The day was filled with students participating in a clarinet master class in which they played sections of solos they are currently working on, receiving critique from Dr. Arthur Campbell, GVSU Clarinet Professor. In addition, students had the unique opportunity of being able to listen to a GVSU Clarinet Studio recital, where current GVSU clarinet students, including HHS alum, Jenni Soles, performed.

As a finale to a day of all things clarinet-related, GVSU as well as participating high school clarinetists performed 2 pieces for clarinet choir in the Cook DeWitt Center on the Allendale GVSU campus.

We are thankful to Grand Valley State University for offering such an enjoyable learning experience!

March is Reading Month!

Kudos to Jefferson K-7 and their participation in March is Reading Month!

This month students have done a variety of activities. One of these activities included keeping track of all of the reading they were doing onto a reading log. At the end of the month, students could turn in completed reading logs. Each log became a "raffle ticket" in a drawing for who gets to silly string the principal!

Students from each grade were chosen to have a turn to spray a can of silly string all over the principal while the whole school watched. It was a fun-filled event to celebrate the many, many hours that students have been reading and improving their skills!

We are so proud of all of our students who are becoming life-long readers!
